What's a Giclée print?

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-klay") prints are the finest advancement in reproductive technolgy to date. Susan chose Giclée for her prints because it offers museum-quality reproduction and is extremely faithful to the original quality of watercolor washes.

The word Giclée is a French word meaning 'to squirt', which refers to the ink-jet printing technology used in this process. The Giclée printer uses minute droplets of archival ink to create prints that can't be duplicated by other printing techniques. Because there is no visible dot screen pattern the resulting image has all of the subtle tonalities of the original art. Each dot may have over 4 billion possible colors, producing exceptional museum-quality prints.

In the first step, a very high resolution scan is made of the original. In the printer, pigment based archival inks are sprayed from hundreds of tiny nozzles onto 100 percent high quality rag watercolor paper. These inks provide lasting color and vibrance. Because this is a digital-technology process, prints can be offered in a variety of sizes from the same original scan.

Susan is involved with the printing process to check and approve the accuracy of color and values against the original before the final print is run. She is confident that the Giclée printing process offers you the finest and most faithful reproduction of her original watercolor art.
